Volunteering for the Salvation Army as Bellringers

Image
We have always wanted to volunteer for the Salvation Army during Christmas.  So we finally made all the right connections and got our stores assigned out to us.  We were so excited.  They give you a little bell to ring, a locked pail on a stand, aprons and told to go bring them in.  We tried to play jingle bells with our bells all we got was a lot of laughs.  It was so cold out we jumped to keep our feet warm and ran in circles.   People were all just great to us.  As they passed us by the ones we figured would surely leave a good donation would drop in a few change or a couple dollars, but the ones we figured had no money would pull out MONEY and drop it in.   Shows you can't tell a book by it's cover.  Our shift was to last 4 hours we were so proud of ourselves and all the ones who donated.  But then we found out most bell ringers do a 8 hours shift. We would recommend anyone doing this.  It does help out the church that is out to help others a

Our little vintage camper "1967 Maizy Bell" 10 feet long

Image
We have had our little camper now for about 3 years.  We picked it up for $1400.  It had been in a shed in a small town called Weippe, Idaho. The previous owners had taken out some of the paneling and replaced it with different wood.  It had a composting toilet that was very old in it and had a stove, oven ice box 4 burners.  We removed the ice box, toilet and actually the stove and oven were in really good condition. We painted everything inside with a white rustoleum enamel oil based paint. I love this paint when it dries it has a nice hard finish and the white has a tint of gray to it so it is not just white white. Now it did take us about 4 coats to cover everything. We purchased a apartment size refrigerator and replaced the ice box.  It is only electric but that works for us. We have removed all propane lines so we do not have any in the camper but we left the oven and stove in case down the road we decide to add it back. If we do we will have it professionally upgraded and insta

Hand Crocheted Mint Green table doily

Image
Was asked the other day if I could crochet a friend a doily.  Well, I crochet all the time but usually use yarn.  Been many years since I used size 10 thread.  So I found a pattern and started to crochet.  Had this mint green yarn in my stash of craft items in the basement craft room.  So mint green it will be.  This is the pineapple stitch doily.  After about 5 minutes I was off and going.  The hardest part for me is seeing the tiny stitches and always having to count. e  Well then I remembered I had to block it after getting it done so I googled it to see what was best.  The one most people said was to use elmers glue and water half and half.  So I proceeded to block this one.  And now I regret it so will have to wash and start all over.  Yes the glue stiffened it but to much.  It will not fold down on the table just lays there and stiff.  So did more research and found to use just water and poster board and straight pins.  So I was off and love the look now it show

Removing and replacing our old pathway

Image
We moved into our home about 15 years ago at that time we decided to place a walkway down through the yard to a firepit.  Our family loves to sit around the backyard fire and roast hotdogs and marshmallows.  We haven't done much to the walkway except spray it once in a while with weed kill but today we decided it was time to remove and repair.  So we began to dig out the bricks..it was amazing how some were buried and some were broken.  They all were beginning to sink down deeper and deeper. There was a lot of moss that had even grown over the top of them.  But hubby and I worked together and got them all dug up.  The pathway went from the deck to the firepit ring.  All of these bricks have been recycled we would watch for free ones.  Sometimes just driving down the road there would be bricks with a sign take all you want.  So some of these bricks have different says on them.  We also enjoy using our dutch ovens.  So son showed us how to maybe add a dutch oven are
